"Tenement 66" Trailer: Home invasion gone fatally awry

Following Babae at Baril‘s warmly received Netflix release, Rae Red returns with another thriller called Tenement 66. This time premiering on iWantTFC, the new film follows a band of young criminals (Noel Comia Jr., Francis Magundayao, and Francine Diaz) who unwittingly put themselves in grave danger by trying to rob a mysterious old man in his tenement apartment.

If all that sounds familiar, it’s because the premise feels taken from Fede Álvarez’s Don’t Breathe, in which a group of young bandits tries to steal from an old blind man. The skew here is that the man in question in Tenement 66, according to the young thieves, is also a thief; and the damp, decrepit setting of an institution-granted tenement lends it a distinctly local flavor. the trailer, which dropped earlier this week, suggests that there’s more to it than that, and it becomes clear that the group bit more than what they could chew.

Following Red’s fantastic outing in the Cignal Play anthology Now StreamingYear of the Rat, I’m personally interested to see where this goes. It’s set to premiere at BIFAN 2021, which commences on July 8, 2021. Tenement 66 premieres on iWantTFC the day after, July 9th.
