“Trese” Trailer: Filipino comics turns a new page as a Netflix anime

The anime adaptation of the beloved Filipino comics hits Netflix soon.

Netflix has dropped the official trailer for Trese, the anime adaptation of the same-name Filipino comic about a monster-infested Manila.

Jointly created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo, the series follows Alexandra Trese, the next in the long line of babaylang mandirigma (healer-warriors). She helps out the police with matters concerning the other-world, a “supernatural consultant” if you will.

The trailer we’ve been sent is dubbed in Filipino, with Liza Soberano (Alone/Together) taking on the eponymous role. The English version stars Shay Mitchell—of Pretty Little Liars fame—as Trese.

I’ve put aside how I want the series to have looked like. Personally, I’d love me some black-and-white, full-on noir take on the I.P., where visually we get to experience the same immaculate inkwork that Baldisimo put in the comics. But this looks great too.

Rocking a similar aesthetic as other Netflix animes like Castlevania (great), the art style reimagines key moments in the comic, from the doomed LRT ride to the close encounters with Trese‘s iconic villains like the tiyanak and Santelmo.

Check out the trailer here:

Trese drops on Netflix on June 11th, 2021.
