On the heels of its first Filipino-language original, Jun Lana's Sampung Mga Kerida, Prime Video is trying its hand at something that should be familiar to Filipino audiences: the rom-com.
(And credit where it's due; they couldn't have picked the right group of people to do it with.)
Their latest film, Walang KaParis, is helmed by director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, bringing on a charming pair, Alessandra De Rossi and Empoy Marquez, to play the leads. Their last film together, Kita-Kita (also directed by Bernardo), opened to a warm reception from both viewers and critics in 2016 and recently found new life in streaming with Netflix.
Walang KaParis follows Jojo (Marquez), a Filipino artist in Paris, who has had many lovers, but not one of them could fill the chasm in his life occupied by the mysterious muse of his paintings. Then comes a day when a woman named Marie (De Rossi) walks up to him and claims to be the subject of his paintings.
The trailer is out now. Watch it in full after the bump. Walang KaParis premieres on Prime Video this March 23, 2023.
